The short version
We collect your email address and the programs you choose to track. If you buy, we also keep the first name you typed at checkout, so we can greet you by it. If a paid account goes over the two-device limit, we keep a short record of that, described below. We use that data to run the site and send you the deadline reminders you asked for. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the site, and we list them below.
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under California privacy law, and we honor them. Details are in the California section below.
What we collect and why
Email address
When you create an account, you give us your email address. We use it to:
- Identify your account.
- Send deadline reminder emails for the programs you choose to track.
- Send occasional product updates (rarely, and only about NSN — see the Reminder Emails section below).
We do not use your email address for advertising.
Your first name
If you buy, Stripe's checkout asks for your name; for a card, that is the name on the card. We keep only your first name from it, and use it for one thing: greeting you, at the top of your programs page and in our emails. We never show it to anyone else. If the name on the card is not yours — a parent paid, say — email us and we will change it or delete it.
Programs you track
When you are logged in, we store a list of the nursing programs you have saved or chosen to track. We use this to power your saved list and to send the right reminders at the right times.
Anonymous visitors: If you use the site without creating an account, your program list is stored only in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device and we never see it. It disappears if you clear your browser data.
Payment information
If you purchase the one-time unlock, payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe sends us a record of the purchase: your email, the name you entered, the time, and the amount. We keep the email, your first name, the time, and the amount, and discard the rest of the name. We never receive, see, or store your card number, expiration date, CVV, or full billing address. Stripe's privacy policy governs how Stripe handles your payment data.
Sign-in device check
Your unlock is for one person. One account can be signed in on two devices at once, and if you sign in on a third, we sign out whichever of the other two you used least recently. Each time that sign-out happens on a paid account, we keep a short record of it. We use these records for one thing: keeping one unlock to one person.
Each record holds:
- which account it was, and when it happened;
- the general kind of device that signed in, such as "iOS Safari" or "Windows Chrome";
- a scrambled reference to each sign-in, so we can later tell what kind of device was the one signed out.
We never record your IP address, your location, or the full identification text your browser sends with every page (sometimes called the user agent string). The record itself signs no one out and blocks no one; the two-device limit does that on its own.
We keep each record for three full calendar months after the month it was made. A record from October is deleted in February.
Web analytics
We have chosen Plausible Analytics to understand how people use the site — which pages are visited, how long visits last, and where traffic comes from.
No analytics runs on this site today. No analytics code reaches any page, so we measure nothing and store nothing. We name the provider now rather than after the fact, so this page is already true on the day it starts.
When we do switch it on, Plausible will set no cookies and store no identifier on your device. It cannot follow you between websites, and it builds no profile of you. What it records is a count, not a person: the page viewed, the site you came from, and rough device and country details read off the request and then thrown away. We will serve it from a path on our own domain, so your browser never calls an analytics company.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
- We do not share your personal information with advertising networks or data brokers.
- We do not build advertising profiles from your activity on this site.
- We do not use your email address to send third-party marketing.
Reminder emails
Reminder emails are sent only for the programs and deadlines you explicitly choose to track. They are transactional — they exist to deliver the service you signed up for, not to market to you.
You can stop reminder emails at any time by updating your tracked programs in your account settings or by emailing us at wil@nursingschoolnavigator.com and asking us to remove you.
We may send a small number of product-related messages (e.g., "We've added 10 new programs"). These are infrequent. You can opt out of them at any time using the unsubscribe link in the email.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device.
Session/authentication cookies: When you sign in, we set one cookie on our own domain so you stay signed in while you browse. It holds a session reference and nothing else — no email address, no browsing history. The paid pages need it; we do not track you with it. Signing out clears it.
Analytics cookies: none. Plausible is cookieless by design, so switching it on adds no cookie. Today it does not run.
Stripe cookies: If you proceed to checkout, Stripe may set cookies for fraud prevention and session management. Stripe controls these cookies and its privacy policy governs them.
We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies.
Service providers (subprocessors)
We share data with the following service providers, strictly to operate NSN. They are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

Data retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your email address, first name, and tracked program list within 30 days, except where we are required to keep records longer (e.g., payment records for tax purposes, which we retain for seven years in line with standard accounting practice).
- Payment confirmation records: Retained for seven years.
- Sign-in device check records: Kept for three full calendar months after the month they were made in, then deleted.
- Analytics data: none held today. Once analytics is enabled, we keep aggregated page-view counts under Plausible's standard retention settings. They carry no identifier for you, so there is nothing in them to look up, export, or delete on request.
- Local storage data (anonymous visitors): Stored only on your device. We have no copy of it and cannot delete it on your behalf; you can clear it by clearing your browser's site data.
Security
We use standard security practices: HTTPS for all connections, access controls for our database, and trusted service providers with their own security programs. No internet transmission is perfectly secure.
There is no NSN password, so nobody can guess one, reuse one, or steal one from us. Signing in means entering a one-time code we email you. That cuts both ways, and you should know which way: whoever can read your email can sign in as you. Securing your email is what secures your NSN account.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights regarding your personal information.
Right to know: You can ask us what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the purposes for collection, and whether we have shared or sold it.
Right to access: You can request a copy of the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you.
Right to delete: You can ask us to delete your personal information. We will do so unless we are required to retain it (e.g., for tax records).
Right to correct: You can ask us to correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is nothing to opt out of, but you have this right.
Right to non-discrimination: We will not treat you differently because you exercise any of these rights.
Sensitive personal information: We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by CPRA (such as Social Security numbers, financial account credentials, or health information).
How to submit a rights request: Email wil@nursingschoolnavigator.com with the subject "Privacy Rights Request" and describe what you are asking for. We will respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request (e.g., by confirming you can access the account email address).
Authorized agents: A California resident may designate an authorized agent to make a rights request on their behalf. The agent must provide written authorization signed by you.

Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we collect or use your data, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this policy. If you have an account, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the site after a material change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Kansas.
